Waves – Wodonga
Waves makes for a fantastic day out with the family and is great value for money. There are two main pools – one 50m pool with ten lanes and a toddler’s pool – as well as a brilliant interactive splash park. If you’ve brought your own food you can make use of the BBQ facilities, or alternatively, there is a cafe selling a range of snacks and drinks. Parking is never a problem and there are also plenty of shaded areas. A family entry only costs $14 (maximum 2 adults), making it really good value. You can see a full list of membership and casual rates here. Children of all ages will love the huge tipping bucket and the water cannons. Waves is open from mid-September until mid-April each year.
The Murray River
Arguably Albury Wodonga’s biggest (literally!) attraction is the famous Murray River. This spectacular natural wonder runs through three Australian states and was once an important trade route for paddle steamers. Nowadays, popular activities for families include:
- Freshwater fishing
- Water Sports (canoeing, wakeboarding & waterskiing)
- Houseboat trips
- Paddle Steamer Rides
- Bike riding
- Walking & Jogging
On a hot summer’s day, there’s nothing more relaxing by The Murray River.
Lake Hume is a short 15-20 minute drive from Albury Wodonga and makes for a highly enjoyable family day out. As well as being an important source of water for the region (did you know the dam holds six times the amount of water as Sydney Harbour?), Lake Hume is a popular tourist destination with thousands of tourists visiting each year to camp, fish, kayak and walk along the dam wall. Enjoy a picnic or a bbq while the kids run around in the sun (or the many shaded areas). There are also plenty of photo opportunities and scenic drives. If you have time, it’s definitely worth visiting Bonegilla Migrant Experience.
